Chair Affair

It is a the sole fundraising event for the CARITAS Furniture Bank where local artists donate their time and talent to transform ordinary chairs from our warehouse into extraordinary works of art to be auctioned off at the event. It incorporates a brief awareness component and live and silent auctions. This fundraising effort offsets the operational costs of serving 40 households per month.

Our 2nd Annual Chair Affair Raises $13,000

In our only fundraising event of the year, CARITAS Furniture Bank raised $13,000 at our 2nd annual Chair Affair on November 14, 2009.  Proceeds from the event help offset the operational costs of providing furniture and household items to over 40 families per month, families that are moving from shelters to stability in a home of their own.

The event featured silent and live auctions of 35 chairs selected from the Furniture Bank warehouse that had been transformed into extraordinary works of art by local artists. Whimsical fairies, breathtaking landscapes and Virginia Tech Hokies were just a few of the chairs’ themes, offering something for everyone’s interest and taste.

Honorary chairman Aaron Gilchrist from NBC 12 News entertained guests at the Charles Luck Studio, who generously hosted the fun-filled evening.   While guests gathered and enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres, they had the chance to admire the chairs and bid on some of them through a silent auction.

CARITAS Furniture Bank Executive Director Karen O’Brien kicked off the evening with a brief welcome staff experiences at the Furniture Bank.   An exciting live auction of the remaining chairs topped off the night in the beautiful Luck Stone gardens.

CARITAS Furniture Bank would like to thank the more than 75 individuals who supported this event as sponsors, artists and volunteers.  Our special thanks go to Charles Luck Studio for their generous support and to all our corporate sponsors.  See our sponsors and to view photos of the event.

Please join us for our 3rd Annual Chair Affair, the date will be announced early next year.  If you are interested in becoming an event sponsor or artist for the 2010 Chair Affair, please contact lhundley@caritasva.org.
